Hydraulic Systems Engineer
Havant, Hampshire
£40,000 – £50,000

We are looking for a skilled and practical Hydraulic Systems Engineer to join a busy and fast-paced design team in Havant. This is a great opportunity to work on innovative marine hydraulic systems, supporting the design, development, testing, and delivery of high-quality solutions from concept through to commissioning.

The role will suit someone with a strong background in hydraulic systems design and troubleshooting, who is comfortable working across engineering, production, project, and service functions. You will play a key role in delivering technically robust, reliable, and cost-effective hydraulic solutions for marine applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimise hydraulic systems for marine winches, windlasses, and related equipment.
  • Specify and size hydraulic components including pumps, motors, valves, manifolds, cylinders, accumulators, filtration, and pipework.
  • Support both new product development and legacy system upgrades, redesigns, and obsolescence management.
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, project, production, and service teams to ensure effective system integration.
  • Engage directly with customers and yards to understand requirements and provide practical engineering solutions.
  • Provide hands-on support during build, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning.
  • Define and witness FAT/HAT testing, then analyse results to refine and improve system performance.
  • Produce and maintain hydraulic schematics, technical drawings, BOMs, specifications, and test reports.
  • Support project delivery, technical risk management, change control, and post-delivery service activity.
  • Drive continuous improvement in system reliability, sustainability, and maintainability.
What We’re Looking For

  • Strong understanding of hydraulic system design, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with marine winches, windlasses, or similar heavy-duty hydraulic equipment would be highly desirable.
  • Ability to interpret classification society rules and relevant industry standards.
  • Experience producing hydraulic schematics and technical documentation.
  • Practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to support build and test activity.
  • Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ownership of outcomes.
  • Confident communicator, able to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with Creo and AutoCAD would be an advantage.
  • Project management experience and a background in cross-functional teamwork would be beneficial.
